Oil on canvas. 60x48 inches. 2023.
Alone on Death Row presents a figure alone on death row.
The composition is divided between two forms of intensity. On the right, the figure appears isolated, terrified, and almost emptied of sanity. On the left, a large eye-like form enters the scene, bright blue and watchful, creating a charged relationship between being remembered and imagined.
Color carries much of the emotional force. The fiery background suggests tormented emotion while the cool gray-white figure feels drained of warmth. The contrast makes the body appear both fragile and insistently present. Brushwork moves between sweeping, atmospheric passages and sharper, agitated marks, giving the image a sense of instability.
